AP Human Geography Trip to City Hall
Spring 2023

The DSHS Ed Foundation funded transportation for students in AP Human Geography classes to visit City Hall and meet with City Planner Wally Wernimont. Students worked in teams to sustainably design a neighborhood while trying to solve issues faced by residents of Dubuque (for example, food deserts). This learning experience clearly connected to students' study of how economic forces influence agricultural practices, the effectiveness of different attempts to address urban sustainability challenges, the causes and effects of geographic change within urban areas, as well as different urban design initiatives and practices. What a great opportunity to extend learning beyond the classroom!
